A Color Check-In Before You Start Level 1
✅ Take this 10-minute color check-in so you have a way to keep up with your progress! This is a self check that you'll do before you start your after class support in ⭐The CWC Directional Color Mapping™ Badge Portal.
Keep your scores somewhere safe so you can check in again and see how you're progressing. This is a self-score, not a test!
We’ll walk through 3 sections, and every one of them is a major piece of the formulating puzzle:
⭐ Basic Color Theory
⭐ Color Mixing Theory
⭐ Knowing Your Color Line
🌈 SECTION 1: Basic Color Knowledge
1 = I’m not confident
5 = I sort of get it but I’m guessing
10 = I use this confidently behind the chair all the time
How confident are you in labeling the hues around the color wheel?
Can you identify the natural level of a client’s hair with accuracy?
Do you understand where natural levels live on the wheel and the remaining pigment that's revealed at each level of lift?
*
How well do you understand the basic color relationships (complementary, analogous, neutral vs natural brown, cool vs warm) and where they live on the wheel?
*
I know which complementary tone to choose in order to neutralize remaining pigments at each level of lift
*
I know how to create a neutral vs natural end result
*
Do you know how to refine a remaining pigment?
*
I know the 5 basic ways to move a tone through the color wheel
*
You’ve just answered some questions on how well you know some of the basics of color theory: the wheel, natural hair, and color relationships.
Now it’s time to move into section #2 , color mixing theory!
🎨 Section 2: Color Mixing Theory
When I mix two colors together that are different in level, I can predict the end level & tone I'll get
*
I can recognize whether a tone is vivid, blended, or muted and accurately place it where it lives on the color wheel
*
I understand how to identify the tone (hue + vibrancy) of a color, whether it's from my tube of color, a desired color or the remaining pigment in the hair.
*
I feel confident choosing my deposit (tones) that'll get me to my desired end result
*
I know how to use the color wheel to map out, plan or troubleshoot a formula for an inspo pic I see
*
I feel comfortable filling and bringing hair back to natural
*
I can identify the color of a hot root and know how to refine it to look more natural
*
When I apply a specific tone to the remaining warmth, I know what direction I'm moving the color
*
I know how to adjust my tonal deposit for gray hair or different percentages of gray
*
I know what will happen if I apply a level 7 muted ash on a level 7 vibrant copper
*
I can predict the final color I'll get when I mix two tones in equal parts AND if I mix those same two tones in UN equal parts
*
You’ve just answered a few questions on some core color mixing skills that affect whether you know how to hit your final desired color. Time to move to knowing your color line!
🧭 Section 3: Knowing Your Color Line
I can identify the hue (reflect) direction of the colors from my line
*
I understand what background is in my oxidative hair colors and how it affects my final tone
*
I know whether my tube of color will have brown/tan background vs grey
*
I know where my tones go from having a brown background to tan or deep grey to light grey
*
I know whether my line is more opaque vs more translucent
*
I feel confident that when I create a formula using tones from my line that it will behave the way I expect
*
I know which colors in my line are more muted, which are more of a blend and which are more vibrant
*
You’ve just answered questions about how well you understand the color line you’re working with, how it’s labeled, how its tones behave in a mix, and how the background and reflect work together. The more you understand how your brand's tones are built, the more predictably you can use them behind the chair.
Now we’re shifting the focus one last time. This final section is about, where you are in your journey, what you’re looking for, and whether you’re ready to take what you’re learning and put it into practice.
🧠 Section 4: Where Are You Now & Where Do You Want To Be?
This section is all about where you are in your color journey, what kind of support you need, and what your goals are
There’s no right answer here. Just pick the answer that best fits you so we can help guide you toward the kind of education that will actually move you forward.
